Isle of Wight artists looking for support to shape their practice or secure funding have a chance to connect directly with artist support specialist, Alys Scott Hawkins.
Round Two of the 1:1 advisory sessions is now open, offering members of the IW Creative Network two hours of focused online guidance this September.
Applications close on Friday 22nd August 2025 at 11.59pm.
An experienced voice in the arts
Alys brings many years of experience in artist development. She currently serves on the Artist Council, the advisory panel for a-n, the UK’s largest membership organisation for visual artists.
Her previous role leading the Artist Development programme at ‘a space’ arts in Southampton drew on long-standing networks across the regional arts sector, giving her a strong perspective on the challenges artists face and the opportunities available to them.
Support that makes a difference
The sessions are designed to help artists navigate practical questions about projects, funding and future direction, while also offering space to reflect on creative growth.
Artist James Lord described how the experience helped him shift his outlook. He said,
“I was at a crossroads with my work so gave the 121 a go. Alys was a great listener and teased out new directions I’d never imagined – I now feel much more confident going forward.
“I’ve started to apply what we discussed and really pleased with the results.”
Strengthening the creative community
The IW Creative Network continues to provide artists and creatives on the Island with practical business support, resources, networking and visibility.
Its Talent Development Programme is designed to nurture members’ ambitions, helping them to thrive and build more sustainable careers.
