A short film shot on the Isle of Wight, and produced by an Island-based filmmaker, has received another prestigious accolade, further cementing its place in the independent film circuit.

Weightless, starring the celebrated Toyah Willcox, won Best Experimental Drama at the Soho London Independent Film Festival last weekend.

Exploring a powerful story
Directed by Lois Norman, Weightless tells the deeply personal story of Maureen, a woman confronting her inner struggles alone on a beach. As she steps into the water, the film delves into themes of resilience and personal transformation.

The screenplay was written by Louise Monaghan, with production led by Isle of Wight-based producer Rowena Amos, founder of 9 of Cups Productions. The film was shot in several Island locations, including Freshwater Bay and Ventnor Bay.

Celebrating the team’s achievement
Writer Louise Monaghan shared her excitement at the recognition. She said,

“Delighted to share the news that Weightless won Best Experimental Drama at Soho London Independent Film Festival. A great result!

“Thank you, SLIFF, for this endorsement of our film. And a big shout out to the entire team who worked on this. It wouldn’t have been the success it’s been without you.”

Music by Robert Fripp
Adding to the film’s evocative atmosphere, Weightless features music composed by Robert Fripp.

As the longtime creative partner and husband of Toyah Willcox, his contribution enriches the film’s emotional landscape.
