Isle of Wight Council libraries will take part in World Book Night on Tuesday, 23rd April 2025.
This annual celebration encourages people of all reading levels to enjoy any book, in any format, for the sheer pleasure of reading.
Accessible books for all
At the centre of World Book Night 2025 are ‘Quick Reads’ — short, engaging books by bestselling authors.
These titles are written in an easy-to-read style, making them ideal for those returning to reading or anyone who prefers shorter stories.
The Isle of Wight Library Service has stocked a wide selection of Quick Reads across all of its libraries.
Evening events at three libraries
To mark the occasion, libraries in Ryde, Lord Louis (Newport), and Sandown will host special events on the evening of 23rd April.
From 6pm to 7pm, visitors can join in a book swap and enjoy ‘bookish’ conversation over drinks and nibbles, kindly provided by the Friends of the Library.
At 7pm, the libraries will take part in the official ‘Reading Hour,’ inviting everyone to settle in and read together for an hour.

A shared love of reading
Louise Emery, development librarian, said,
“World Book Night is a wonderful opportunity for everyone to come together and celebrate the joy of reading.
“We hope to see many new and familiar faces at our events, sharing their love for books and stories.”
Reading for pleasure for just 30 minutes a week has been shown to boost life satisfaction.
One in four readers say a book has helped them realise that others have gone through similar experiences, helping them feel better about their own.
