Next month, the Island Sailing Club will be hosting the very first Isle of Wight Writers Jamboree. This annual event will celebrate the Island’s literary community.
The aim for the Jamboree is to create a space for writers to connect, exchange ideas and enjoy an evening dedicated to the craft of writing.
Writers will also have the opportunity to gain insights into the Island’s cultural and creative landscape, learning about key objectives, goals and emerging opportunities in the sector.
A collaborative effort
Medina Bookshop, in partnership with Creative Island and its IW Creative Network talent development programme, will be bringing this event to life.
Attendees can look forward to meeting representatives from Naked Figleaf Press, Brevity and other organisations supporting local literary talent.
The organisers encourage participation and dialogue. Writers can share their comments, observations, and suggestions during the event or leave their thoughts in a dedicated comments box.
Competitions and opportunities
The evening will also mark the launch of several exciting writing competitions.
These include the Isle of Wight Book Awards and the Isle of Wight Biosphere Writing Competition, providing writers with a chance to showcase their skills and gain recognition.
Tickets and membership perks
The Isle of Wight Writers Jamboree takes place on Monday 3rd February 2025 between 6pm and 10pm at the Island Sailing Club.
Tickets for the event cost £5 and include a cone of fish and chips (or a vegan alternative). Members of the IW Creative Network can attend for free as part of their annual £30 membership (join here).
Writers interested in joining the event can secure their place via Medina Bookshop’s website.
The Writers Jamboree promises to be a vibrant celebration of the Island’s creative talent, fostering collaboration and inspiration for years to come.
