Last weekend saw the launch of Brave Island’s annual Isle of Wight Young Artist Award.
Now in its third year, this competition has grown year on year, with a record number of entries for 2024.
A gallery full of young talent
This year’s event showcases the creativity of 41 young artists whose artwork is currently on display at the Quay Arts Centre in Newport.
Their pieces adorn the café walls and fill the Jenny Clayden Gallery, creating a vibrant exhibition that will be available for viewing for the next three and a half weeks.
Excitement on awards day
Saturday’s launch brought families and young artists together at the Quay Arts Centre. They eagerly gathered to see the diverse artwork in person and discover who would be named Isle of Wight Young Artist of the Year.
While the judges highlighted the exceptional talents of George Gladdis, Lola Parsons, and Nancy Tillman, the shortlist of three artists included Elsie Calder, Rose Fennell, and Austin Carroll.
Isle of Wight Young Artist of the Year
Elsie Calder, with three pieces exhibited in the Jenny Clayden Gallery, was crowned the winner of the 2024 Isle of Wight Young Artist Award.
The quality of the work produced by all the young artists has been described as outstanding, making this exhibition a must-see for residents and visitors alike.
