Cowes

Creative Island is committed to convening a series of local conversations with the cultural community of each town on the Isle of Wight. The ambition is to speak about and listen to the particular challenges and opportunities that we all face, to explore collaborative opportunities, share information and network with others. One of the 6 places or “towns” that we host these meetings is Cowes. Below you’ll find a short summary of each meeting previously held:

December 2025 | At our most recent session, we explored what shapes a sense of belonging across the Cowes peninsula at East Cowes Town Hall. Key themes included the importance of a warm welcome, clear communication for newcomers, families, and young people, and moving beyond “us and them” divides. Shared ownership through volunteering, creative projects, and community initiatives was highlighted as a way to strengthen connections. Next steps include creating a shared directory, making better use of local spaces, and continuing cross-sector collaboration. Attendees valued meeting new people and discovering ways to work together.

July 2025 | This session focused on connections, collaboration, and Cowes as a creative hub. Attendees discussed engaging young people, celebrating local creativity, and building inclusive community spaces. Ideas included cohesive event planning, improved communication, and grassroots projects that could start immediately.

December 2024 | The first Cowes Town Conversations brought the community together to discuss challenges and opportunities, explore collaboration, and share information. Enthusiasm and dedication were clear, with a focus on working together to find solutions for Cowes and the wider Island.

Cowes also has a dedicated WhatsApp group to help keep momentum going, share opportunities, and develop ideas collaboratively between these meetings. If you’d like to be a part of this community WhatsApp group, please email your number to Sam at sam@creativeisland.org.
