‘Folktastic Isle’ Touring Exhibition

8 September 2026
9:00 AM – 5:30 PM
Lord Louis Library, 44 Orchard St, Newport PO30 1LL (Central)

OVERVIEW

New Carnival presents Folktastic Isle, an exhibition exploring the Isle of Wight’s folk heritage, the art of the people.

A culmination of a two-year project exploring seasonal celebrations and customs, stories, myths and legends, the exhibition has been developed in partnership with the Isle of Wight Heritage Service and the Shipwreck Museum.

Featuring new replicas of a Roman hare brooch and the Neolithic flint tribrach, visitors are invited to help decide what this mysterious object might have been used for.

There will also be an HMS Eurydice Memorial Book, carved from the wreck of the Island’s famous “ghost ship”, alongside James Dore’s glass plate photographs.

Everyone is welcome to discover the weird and wonderful, explore New Carnival’s costumes and young people’s artwork, and uncover the Island’s lesser-known cultural heritage. Suitable for all ages.
