A commission by the environmental group, Gift To Nature, to compose a suite of songs about five trees that grow in Sibden Hill, has led to the release of an EP for Isle of Wight renowned singer and songwriter.

Not only that, but thanks to significant support on the airwaves, Paul Armfield has been invited onto Mark Radcliffe’s Radio 2 Folk Show on Wednesday, 19th June at 9pm for a chat in the studio and to give live performances of his nature-inspired songs.

Unexpected
Paul was commissioned in early 2023 by Gift To Nature to compose a suite of songs about five trees that grow in Sibden Hill. This small, but diverse copse, is hidden in the middle of a modern housing estate in Shanklin.

Paul debuted these songs last May to several small audiences beneath the very trees that inspired them. Strategically placed QR codes now allow visitors to the woods to listen to the songs in situ.

Collaborations
At the end of the year, Paul commissioned his friend, Norwegian fiddle-playing songstress Mari Persen, to arrange and record strings for the songs.

The EP is now available to stream and download from all the usual platforms.
