We are delighted to have the first draft of Island Song written by the young people of the Isle of Wight following workshops with composer James Redwood! The resources for schools and children to learn are now up online in the Southampton and Isle of Wight Music Songbank
We are excitedly rehearsing these in schools and with ensembles over the next four weeks prior to our World Premiere performance in a few week’s time. The song itself has some beautiful lyrics and music written by young musicians in their workshops reflecting on what it is to grow up on the Island – here is an excerpt from the opening “We are seeds planted in the ground, our family trees branching out, reaching across the Island, our hearts grow…”
This song will be performed along with other repertoire by the Isle of Wight Symphony Youth Orchestra, Medina Marching Band Youth Training Corps of Drums and students from Medina College alongside primary school voices on Sunday 11th October in the Ventnor Exchange Arena at Sandham Gardens from 5pm – 6.30pm.
