The Isle of Wight is making a strong impression at the latest Portsmouth Music Awards.
Not only have talented artists from the Island been recognised, but a much-loved local music venue has also been shortlisted.
Artists in the running
Young indie rockers 5 Degrees North are in contention for Indie/Rock/Alternative/Metal Act of the Year.
Former Islander Kate Harding, who now lives just across the water, has been nominated for Acoustic/Country/Folk Act of the Year.
Their inclusion highlights the depth of musical talent emerging from the Isle of Wight and its continued contribution to the wider south coast music scene.
Strings Bar & Venue Recognised
Strings Bar and Venue in Newport has also been shortlisted for Local Music Venue of the Year.
A spokesperson for Strings said,
“We are so grateful to be recognised as part of the Portsmouth Music Scene. With so many great music venues on the south coast we are in good company.”
Vote now
The artists and venue now needs support from the local community to help secure their titles.
The spokesperson for Strings said,
“The voting is now down to the public with the closing date being the end of February.
“We’d really appreciate it if those that have been to our venue over the last year could give us their vote.”
Awards Final
The final will take place on Wednesday 9th April at the Portsmouth Guildhall.
Tickets for the public are available from today (Tuesday 11th February).
