Creative Island has now entered the first round of the Past Futures programme, a new initiative designed to encourage wider participation in telling the Isle of Wight’s history.
To support local groups and individuals applying for the £5,000-£10,000 grants, the team is hosting two informal drop-in sessions for anyone interested in taking part.
Drop-in sessions in Newport and Sandown
The first session will be held on Thursday 5th June from 10am to 1pm at the Riverside Centre, Newport.
The second takes place on Friday 6th June between 5pm and 7pm at Boojum & Snark, Sandown.
There’s no need to book – just turn up when it suits you.
A chance to ask questions and shape ideas
You might have questions about the grant and want to speak to Kelly Wetherick, Creative Island’s new Heritage Lead.
Or perhaps you’d like to think through your digital approach with consultant Martha Henson, or talk evaluation with Caroline Barnes.
The team will be on hand to chat over a cup of tea or coffee – and there’ll be cake too.
If you’re not sure what story you want to tell, you’re welcome to bring along any documents or artefacts that might help spark ideas.
What is Past Futures?
Past Futures is an 18-month programme funded by The National Heritage Lottery Fund.
It is facilitated by the Hampshire & Isle of Wight Community Foundation.
The aim is to broaden the range of voices telling the story of the Island and to support people to explore their identity through heritage.
The programme encourages projects that uncover and record the Island’s cultural richness, especially from perspectives that may not yet have been widely heard.
Full details, including the application criteria, are available on the website.
