Ventnor Fringe Festival returns to the south of the Isle of Wight later this week, running from Friday 18th to Sunday 27th July.

This year’s programme includes more than 120 shows, bringing together the Island’s widest mix of circus, comedy, theatre, music and spoken word.

New venues for 2025
Performances will take place in venues and pop-up spaces throughout Ventnor. Two major new venues debut this year: the Ventnor Exchange Arena and the Bosco Theatre.

The Ventnor Exchange Arena is a multi-purpose touring ‘Big Top’ tent. It complements the existing Ventnor Exchange building and brings theatre, circus, cabaret and music direct to audiences.

Located at Flowersbrook, just along the coast from the Fringe Village in Ventnor Park, the tent is decorated in the colours of Brave Island, the organisation’s youth programme.

Replacing the Magpie Tent, the Bosco Theatre also joins the Fringe Village. Originally built in 1909 by Hannes Ophof, this historic Dutch “kermis” tent travelled the Netherlands as a family circus. Preserved since 2000 by the Jansen family, it has arrived on the Island especially for the festival.

Hidden shows in surprising places
A hallmark of the festival is its use of unusual and unexpected locations. Audiences are invited to explore the town and discover hidden performances as they go.

This year includes an immersive experience inside a completely dark shipping container, offering a show that challenges the senses.

Another highlight is a promenade performance through the Island’s tropical Botanic Gardens, taking place after hours.

The Book Bus
Old favourites such as The Book Bus, will be rolling back into the Fringe Square (St Catherine’s Church) from Wednesday 23rd to Saturday 26th July. Don’t miss this beautiful 1930’s Parisian bus, packed full of curated literature delights.

As well as musical entertainment in the Fringe Square, The Books Bus will be hosting a return (and ever popular) storytime visit from Neal Layton, Isle of Wight author and illustrator of children’s books.

Organisers say this year’s festival offers something for all ages and interests.
