Present: Stories Underfoot

Stories Underfoot is a new series of public performed walks produced by StoneCrabs Theatre. Building on the successful Faces + Places programme and inspired by their Island LGBTQ+ Trail Map, the project brings together history, heritage and theatre to create immersive outdoor performances rooted in the Island’s landscapes. Each walk reveals layers of story and memory connected to remarkable figures who lived, worked or performed here, including Virginia Woolf, Charlotte Mew, Oscar Wilde and Algernon Charles Swinburne.

Developed with professional artists, local historians and community participants, each walk is created for a specific location and recorded so it can be experienced again in the future. Audiences are invited to explore lesser-known LGBTQ+ histories through performance, creativity and a deeper connection to place.
