Last week’s Under The Bed Sale IW was a huge success, with more than £40,000 raised in sales of artwork by Isle of Wight artists.

More than 50 artists had their work on display for over a week at Quay Arts in Newport, attracting increased footfall from the previous year’s sale in Ryde.

The annual not-for-profit event was run by Fran Farrar, Fiona Schindler, Jill Wilkinson and Karen Mead.

Over 800 pieces sold
Organisers said,

“Over 800 pieces of artwork from 53 artists were sold over the week of Under the Bed Sale held this year at the Island’s creative hub, Quay Arts.

“The not-for-profit event has further boosted the artist community on the Island. Buyers came from across the Solent area, reinforcing the Island’s reputation as an art destination.

“Having the sale at Quay Arts helped increase footfall, with over 1,000 visitors on the opening day alone keeping the gallery and cafe busy all day.

“The sale, totally run by volunteers, was a huge success again this year and could well become a fixture in the Island’s creative calendar.”

A boost for the Island’s art scene
They added,

“We’re thrilled that the figures suggest that Under the Bed Sale 2025 took over £40k, which will be going directly back to the artists for their individual sales!”

A thriving creative hub
The event has provided a significant boost for the local artist community.

Buyers travelled from across the Solent area, reinforcing the Isle of Wight’s growing reputation as a key destination for art lovers.

A future fixture in the Island’s cultural calendar
Holding the sale at Quay Arts this year also contributed to a surge in visitors.

More than 1,000 people attended on the opening day alone, ensuring a busy and vibrant atmosphere in both the gallery and its cafe.

The event, which is entirely run by volunteers, was a resounding success.

Organisers believe it could become a permanent fixture in the Island’s creative calendar. We certainly hope so! Well done to all involved.
